A fire late Thursday heavily damaged Khal Medrash Pinches Ostilla at 2 Beatrix Road in Airmont, Monsey Scoop reports. It was reported around 10 p.m., and crews from Tallman, Suffern, Hillcrest, Hillburn, Mahwah and Upper Saddle River fought it for hours. An electrical problem is suspected, but the cause is under investigation.

Firefighters kept the flames away from a safe holding the shul's Sifrei Torah and the Rav's tefillin, and all were taken out undamaged with help from Chaverim of Rockland volunteers. One firefighter was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

State Sen. Bill Weber toured the damage Friday with Rabbi Twersky and promised support for rebuilding.
