Azerbaijan bans 14 Iranians, including Kayhan's editor and four sitting lawmakers, for threatening the country

ATTRIBUTED CLAIMS

Azerbaijan has declared 14 Iranians persona non grata and banned them from entering the country over statements it says threatened its sovereignty and security, Azerbaijan's APA news agency reported Tuesday, per Iran International.

The list includes Hossein Shariatmadari, editor-in-chief of the hardline Kayhan newspaper; members of Iran's parliament Kamran Ghazanfari, Abbas Moghtadaei, Abolfazl Zohrevand and Alireza Salimi; former lawmaker Alireza Beigi; Abdolhossein Khosropanah, secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution; senior clerics Mohsen Araki and Mohammad Javad Fazel Lankarani; and an official from the Tabriz Friday prayer leader's office.

APA said the bans followed statements challenging Azerbaijan's sovereignty, promoting religious hostility and calling for the forcible removal of its leadership. Tehran hasn't responded.
