Eva Geller, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor who was shot during the Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre, died in a Sydney hospital Thursday night — nearly a year after the attack — raising the death toll to 16, ABC News reported.
Geller was seriously wounded in the legs when two gunmen opened fire on a Jewish holiday celebration at Archer Park on Dec. 14, 2025. Rabbi Aron Moss said she had been in and out of hospital since, was told she would never walk again, then walked again through sheer determination before her condition declined in recent weeks at Prince of Wales Hospital.
Moss said Geller escaped Hungary as a child with her mother and grandmother; her late husband was also a Holocaust survivor. NSW Police said they were aware of the death and were working with the coroner. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns issued tributes, with Albanese saying she should have been able to celebrate Chanukah in peace. Fifteen people were killed at the scene; one alleged gunman remains before the courts on terrorism and murder charges.
