A Bronx Supreme Court judge was arrested this week for driving under the influence and refusing a breathalyzer test, police told the New York Post.
Judge Erik Gray, 58, is suspected of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, driving while ability impaired and refusing to take a breath test after officers stopped him at 12:35 a.m. Friday at 189th Street and Webster Avenue in the Fordham section of the Bronx. A police source told the Post that a charge of driving while impaired by drugs can involve prescription medication. Under New York law, refusing a breathalyzer triggers an immediate automatic driver's license suspension.
Gray ran on the Democratic ticket for election to the New York City Civil Court of New York County in 2019, according to Ballotpedia, and his term ends Dec. 31, 2029. He previously made headlines for releasing a grade-school teacher on his own recognizance after the man was charged with molesting a girl in 2022. The Office of Court Administration did not return the Post's email seeking comment, and Gray did not return a telephone message.
