Byron Donalds, Florida's first Black governor-elect: "We don't care about the color of your skin"

Florida Governor-elect Byron Donalds, who will be the first Black governor in the state's history, said Saturday that voters looked past race when they picked him, Fox News reported.

"We don't care about the color of your skin. We just want to make sure we have the best person leading our state into the future," Donalds said, describing the message he believes Florida voters sent. He spoke with Lara Trump on Fox News' "My View with Lara Trump."

Donalds said he hopes the moment marks a broader shift away from racial division in American politics.

He also credited Gov. Ron DeSantis' record and Florida's population growth with helping Republicans withstand what he called political headwinds on Tuesday night, and said his campaign stayed "laser-focused" on gas, groceries, housing and insurance costs with a "hyper-local" message.
