FACTS
The Associated Press on Thursday projected Democrat Jessica Killin the winner in Colorado's 5th Congressional District, ending more than 50 years of Republican control of the Colorado Springs-area seat, Colorado Politics reported.
Killin led incumbent Republican Rep. Jeff Crank by more than 13,000 votes in the latest tally, with Killin at about 50.6% and Crank at 46%. More than 20,000 ballots remained to be counted in El Paso County, but the AP call means the network saw no plausible path for Crank to close the gap.
The seat had been held by Republicans since the modern district was drawn. Killin's win adds another Democratic House pickup in a midterm wave that has already flipped a string of GOP districts.
