Danon to Iran's envoy at the UN: "Israel will not take orders from Tehran"

FACTS

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, posted video Saturday night of a sharp exchange with Iran's representative at a UN General Assembly committee, writing that the Iranian envoy "seems to have forgotten not to mess with Israel. I made sure to remind him."

The clash came at the Sixth Committee's 40th plenary meeting on Friday, after Israel was selected to coordinate a draft resolution on behalf of the committee's bureau. In the video, Iran's delegate says the "Israeli regime" not only does not deserve to be a coordinator in the process but "never had any merit for being a UN member."

In Israel's right of reply, according to the UN meeting record, the Israeli side said it would chair the day's meeting and keep coordinating the text. "Let me be clear. Israel will not take orders from Tehran," the speaker says. "I speak now to the so-called Iranian representative, the one who claims to represent the Iranian people. The only thing you represent is a brutal terrorist regime. You think you can come here and lecture Israel about human rights? You think you can sit here and claim Israel has no right to be a member state? You think you can use a UN microphone to deny that Israel is a state? Who do you think you are?"

The reply went on to accuse the regime of blocking the Strait of Hormuz, funding terrorist proxies that threaten Israel, and rebuilding its nuclear and missile programs.
