The Associated Press says Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections.
By AP race calls as of 11:10 AM ET, Democrats (including independents who caucus with them) have 51 Senate seats and Republicans 44, counting seats not up this year, with 5 not called by AP: Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Mississippi and South Carolina. The New York Times has made its own calls in Iowa, Maine and South Carolina, but AP has not, so we count them as undecided.
In the House, AP has called 222 seats for Democrats and 138 for Republicans, with 75 undecided. A majority is 218.
Still close: Mississippi Senate, Scott Colom (D) 462,821, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) 462,778, about 96% counted. Alaska Senate, Mary Peltola (D) 102,701, Sen. Dan Sullivan (R) 102,075, about 74% counted.
