DOJ shake-up: national security chief Eisenberg and Miami U.S. attorney resign

FACTS

Attorney General Todd Blanche on Friday announced the resignations of John Eisenberg, head of the Justice Department's National Security Division, and Jason Reding Quiñones, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida — the latest high-profile DOJ departures since Democrats swept the midterms.

Blanche thanked Eisenberg for "strengthening our nation's ability to address threats, both foreign and domestic," saying the division advanced prosecutions of terrorists and worked with partners to disrupt planned attacks. Eisenberg previously served as White House counsel staff and an NSC legal adviser in Trump's first term.

Quiñones, confirmed about 15 months ago, oversaw the Southern District of Florida office. Blanche credited him with leadership against violent crime, drug trafficking, sex trafficking and transnational crime. The exits follow Thursday's resignation of Civil Rights Division chief Harmeet Dhillon, making three Senate-confirmed Trump DOJ officials to step down in the days after the midterms.
