A federal court on Thursday upheld Florida's Domestic Terrorist Organization law and rejected a bid by the Council on American-Islamic Relations to block the state's designation of the group, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said.
"This morning, a federal court upheld Florida's Domestic Terrorist Organization law and rejected CAIR's attempt to stop the designations. Great win by our Solicitor General's office and for the people of Florida," Uthmeier posted on X.
The ruling came as CAIR-Florida said it had suspended operations in the state after Gov. Ron DeSantis designated the organization under the new law. A sign taped to the window of CAIR's Temple Terrace office near Tampa announced the suspension. CAIR has called the label unconstitutional; Florida officials cite longstanding concerns about the group's record.
