FACTS
Total federal debt stood at $40.50 trillion on Nov. 2, Treasury's daily "Debt to the Penny" figures show. It was $40.17 trillion on Sept. 30, so the debt grew by about $353 billion in October (to Oct. 30), after briefly topping $40.59 trillion on Oct. 29.
Since July 1, when it was $39.39 trillion, the debt is up about $1.1 trillion, close to $300 billion a month.
The Kobeissi Letter flagged the jump on X on Tuesday, putting October's increase at $422 billion. Treasury's own end-of-month figures show a smaller rise. Either way, that is more than $10 billion a day.
