Registered Republicans are swamping Democrats at Florida's polls today. By 12:40 p.m. ET, 586,961 Republicans had voted in person on Election Day, against 298,367 Democrats and 271,483 others, a Republican edge of about 25 points of the day's 1,156,811 ballots, according to FreshTake.Vote's tracker of state data. Majority Analytics' count, with 66 of 67 counties reporting at 12:34 p.m. and Broward not yet in, shows the same picture: 561,662 Republicans to 268,850 Democrats, a gap of 292,812.
Add mail and early voting and the statewide Republican lead stands at about 430,900 ballots, or roughly 6.4 points, FreshTake.Vote shows. Going into today, Republicans led by about 129,000: they won early in-person voting 1,497,468 to 1,210,445, while Democrats led mail ballots 854,851 to 697,014, the Tallahassee Democrat reported from state figures.
Who it favors: Republicans. Caveat: this counts voters by party registration, not by how they voted, and independents and crossover voters decide close races. Florida Democrats also vote more by mail, so the Election Day numbers always lean Republican.
