Georgia's incoming agriculture commissioner, Democrat Katherine Juhan-Arnold, said in a video clip circulating Thursday that the state has the budget to direct funds to black farmers, drawing a backlash from conservatives who called it a race-based program.
"We have the budget to allocate funds for our black farmers, for our beginning farmers, for people who have a disconnect," Juhan-Arnold said, according to the clip posted by End Wokeness. She went on to describe family land lost to heirs' property and said, "we have to dedicate resources to re-educate our community so they understand what to do."
Juhan-Arnold defeated Republican incumbent Tyler Harper on Tuesday. Her campaign agenda calls for a dedicated fund for "underserved farmers and producers." End Wokeness's post on the clip had drawn more than 900,000 views by Thursday afternoon.
