REPORT

Haitian National Police said about 20 gang members, including a leader known as "Galaxy," were killed in an Oct. 29 operation in Arcahaie, northwest of Port-au-Prince, and that gangs attacked the town Saturday, El País reports, citing a police statement.

Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council has set the first round of general elections for July 18 next year and a runoff for Oct. 4, after gang violence forced it to drop the planned Dec. 13 date, AP reports.

Gang violence has killed more than 5,700 people in Haiti this year, Axios reports.

Update, Nov. 2: More than 2,000 Salvadoran troops are carrying out anti-gang operations around Croix-des-Bouquets, Gantier and Fond-Parisien east of Port-au-Prince, El País (Uruguay) and Infobae report. The fate of the four missing aviation technicians the mission set out to recover has not been confirmed.
