Kansas votes tonight on writing 'only citizens vote' into its constitution. Bettors give it 89%

FACTS

Kansas has one statewide question on the ballot today: Amendment 1, which would change the state constitution from saying "every" U.S. citizen who is 18 and lives in the area can vote to saying "no person" can vote unless they are a U.S. citizen, 18 and a resident.

Polymarket put the chance it passes at 89% at 5:49 p.m. ET. Most Kansas polls close at 8 p.m. ET, the western counties at 9.

Noncitizen voting is already a felony under Kansas law, and no Kansas city has tried to let noncitizens vote. Supporters, who put the amendment on the ballot through the Legislature, say that is the point: the current wording doesn't explicitly stop a city from doing it, as San Francisco does for some school board races. Opponents call it a fix for a problem Kansas doesn't have.
