The Republican National Committee sent a letter to Michigan's county clerks Tuesday afternoon saying it has "credible reports from across Michigan" that election inspectors are telling voters that if they fill in the straight-party option, they can't cross over and vote for a candidate from the other party.
That is false. Michigan's constitution lets voters pick the straight-party option and then still vote for individual candidates of another party. The RNC letter cites Article II, Section 4(1)(c). The vote for the individual candidate counts in that race.
The letter, signed by RNC election integrity counsel Luke Bunting and senior counsel James Hasson, says the Secretary of State's office has been notified and "has taken steps to address this issue." The RNC didn't say which counties or how many voters.
If you're voting in Michigan today: you can fill in the straight-ticket oval and still vote for Mike Rogers, or anyone else, in the Senate race.
