Milwaukee machine fails to read about 100 ballots; officials say all counted. Wisconsin has 797,000 absentees to count today

FACTS

A voting machine at Milwaukee's Saveland Park Pavilion stopped reading ballots Tuesday morning. About 100 ballots were held in a secure bin until the machine was repaired, and all were then tabulated, Milwaukee Election Commission director Paulina Gutiérrez said, according to WTMJ and WISN.

Officials said the other machine problems in the city were fixed by turning machines off and on. Separately, some absentee ballots at Central Count were missing voter numbers; officials called it a clerical error and said the ballots were reviewed and processed, WISN and WTMJ report.

The big number is statewide. Nearly 797,000 absentee ballots had come back to clerks to be counted on Election Day, plus more than 463,000 in-person absentee votes, Wisconsin Elections Commission administrator Meagan Wolfe said, according to WISN. Wisconsin polls close at 8 p.m. Central, and Milwaukee's absentee count usually lands late.
