Missouri Dem Rep. Anthony Ealy arrested on assault charge a day after winning reelection

FACTS

Democratic Missouri state Rep. Anthony Ealy was arrested in Jefferson City on Wednesday on misdemeanor fourth-degree assault and disturbing-the-peace charges, one day after voters reelected him with 68% of the vote, ABC 17 News reported Thursday.

Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson confirmed his office filed the charges. Jefferson City police said officers responded around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 600 block of East Capitol Avenue after reports of a disturbance involving threats. Witnesses told police Ealy had been yelling outside a nearby business, threatened another person with violence, and made reference to a weapon. He was found nearby and arrested. He was held without bond Thursday.

Marc Powers, chief of staff for the House Minority Leader's office, said Democratic leadership removed Ealy from all committees in the spring so he could focus on personal issues, with no plans to restore those assignments. Ealy, 32, represents District 36 in Jackson County.
