NJ-7: Republicans outvoting Democrats at the polls today as Kean chases Bennett's early lead

ATTRIBUTED CLAIMS

Republicans are outvoting Democrats on Election Day in New Jersey's 7th District, the New Jersey Globe reports, a good sign for Rep. Tom Kean Jr. against Democrat Rebecca Bennett. By 10:42 a.m., 17,203 Republicans had voted in person compared with 14,155 Democrats and 10,523 unaffiliated voters, according to data the Globe cited. Republicans were 51% of Election Day voters in Hunterdon and Warren and 46% in Morris. Union County ran the other way.

Kean still has ground to make up. Democrats had a lead of about 27,000 among everyone who had voted through Tuesday morning, mostly from early and mail votes, the Globe reports. In Somerset, the county clerk told InsiderNJ that Democrats were ahead 43,505 to 23,600 on early voting, and called Election Day turnout "a little bit lackluster." His explanation: "A lot of folks are tired of the circus."

Republicans also have more voters left. The Globe counts about 158,600 Republicans who had not yet voted, against about 115,800 Democrats. New Jersey polls close at 8 p.m.
