The New York Post editorial board on Thursday answered incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's vow to end the Iran war when Democrats take over Congress in January, arguing that "end the war" would hand Tehran a win.
"We can't think that many of them want Iran to take control of the Strait of Hormuz, let alone join the nuclear-weapons club — yet 'end the war' seems to guarantee just that," the board wrote. It argued the Democrats' stance makes a negotiated deal less likely, since Tehran has no reason to retreat from its demands if Congress is set to force a U.S. pullback.
The editorial said President Trump has been clear that the goal is stopping Iran from going nuclear, quoting him: "If I had it to do again, I'd have to do it again." Its bottom line: "Finish the job, as best is possible. ... You've got two months before Dems take over Congress, Mr. President: Don't make those sacrifices be in vain."
