Democrats now control both chambers of Congress, but Fox News columnist David Marcus argues the win exposes a split the party will have to answer for, and Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman stands at the center of it.
Fetterman has become the Senate's most vocal moderate Democrat on immigration enforcement, support for Israel and refusing to shut down the government for liberal policy wins, Marcus writes. That was one thing in the minority. The question now is how incoming Majority Leader Chuck Schumer handles him.
Marcus notes the new class looks different from what party leaders expected: Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan instead of Haley Stevens or Mallory McMorrow, and Troy Jackson in Maine instead of Angie Craig. He expects the ascendant left to draw lines on Israel and on immigration enforcement funding, and writes that Schumer will likely "bend the knee" to those demands, but Fetterman will not.
"We know the tent is big enough for the likes of California streamer and anti-Israel firebrand Hasan Piker, but is there room in it for John Fetterman?" Marcus asks. He also asks whether Republicans can use that gap to win over law-and-order, pro-Israel Democratic voters.
