Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia was the top pick for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination in a straw poll at Crooked Con, the progressive conference hosted by Crooked Media in Washington, the Washington Examiner reported Sunday.
Of 990 respondents, 38.4% chose Ossoff as their first choice. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York came in second with 16.6%, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was third with almost 14%. Ossoff also led the second-choice question with 22.6%, ahead of Buttigieg and Ocasio-Cortez.
Several other possible contenders appeared at Saturday's event at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, including Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Ossoff, who won a second term on Tuesday, has said he has "zero interest in running for president." His new Senate term runs until 2032, so he would have to give up the seat if he won the White House.
