Supporters lined up outside Jewish-owned restaurants in Philadelphia on Sunday morning as pro-Palestinian cyclists gathered in Rittenhouse Square for a "Boycott Ride" against what the protesters call "Zionist establishments," according to video from journalist @ScooterCasterNY.
"We are here today to support these businesses," one woman told him. "Hating on Israeli people and then extending it and hating on Jews in general is exactly what it is: antisemitism." She added that doing it "on the night of Kristallnacht" makes it worse.
A man in the line, wrapped in an American flag, said he hoped the protesters would "see this as a big turnout of pro-Israel, pro-Jewish and pro-American citizens."
@ScooterCasterNY also filmed confrontations between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel crowds at the event.
Last week Gov. Josh Shapiro, Attorney General Dave Sunday and Mayor Cherelle Parker condemned the ride as antisemitic, and Parker said Philadelphia police would maintain order. The ride falls on the eve of the anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Nazi pogrom of Nov. 9-10, 1938.
