After urging voters to "pretend I'm on the ballot," Trump says he "wasn't on the ticket" as Republicans trade blame

FACTS

Semafor reports that after weeks of urging voters to "pretend I'm on the ballot," President Trump insisted after Tuesday's losses that he "wasn't on the ticket."

The White House was quick to blame the losing candidates, Semafor reports, and those candidates pointed to the president's tariff policies and the war with Iran. A GOP strategist told The New York Times that Trump was "the engineer of the Republican collapse."

Vice President JD Vance said the Iran war was the "real reason" for the losses, and Florida's governor called for a reckoning, according to Semafor.
