Saudi Arabia confirms Aramco tower in Riyadh was hit after Houthi missiles were shot down over the capital

FACTS

An administrative building belonging to Saudi Aramco in Riyadh was damaged by falling debris after a Houthi attack on Sunday, Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry said, according to The Times of Israel. No injuries or deaths were reported.

A Reuters witness saw blown-out windows across several floors of the Aramco Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the capital's King Abdullah Financial District. The ministry said the damage was limited.

The damage came after the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted two missiles fired toward Riyadh by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis. The coalition later said it had also intercepted and destroyed two cruise missiles over Riyadh and the kingdom's southern region. Earlier Sunday, Saudi Civil Defense issued, then lifted, warnings in several areas of the Eastern Province, including Dhahran, home to Aramco's headquarters.

Aramco was not immediately available for comment, and there was no immediate statement from the Houthis.

The King Abdullah Financial District is the showcase of the kingdom's economic reform drive, and hitting it would mark a major escalation in the Houthis' campaign against Saudi Arabia. Aramco's headquarters was badly damaged in an attack in October, and the kingdom has been pressing allies for help as it comes under near-daily fire from the Houthis.
