Scott Presler, the Republican voter-registration organizer behind some of the party's biggest registration gains in Pennsylvania, answered the Westchester scanner breakdown with one instruction: vote.
"If you're angry about what's happening in Westchester County, NY, then get out & vote for Mike Lawler," he posted at 10:08 a.m. "Turn it into a party & make this backfire big time. By the way, House Election Observers are on the ground."
The post has been shared nearly 3,000 times. Ballot scanners at most Westchester polling sites have been down since 6 a.m. Voters are still voting. Paper ballots go into sealed orange bags and get counted later at the Board of Elections, so a broken scanner is not a reason to leave the line.
Presler kept at it all afternoon. "Democrats don't want you to vote. They want you to stay home. They need you to stay home," he wrote at 2:24 p.m. At 4:10 p.m. he said there were still 43,065 unreturned Republican mail ballots in Pennsylvania, with until 8 p.m. to hand them in at a county elections office or spoil them at a polling place.
Polls in New York close at 9 p.m. Anyone in line by 9 gets to vote.
