Sherrill tells New Jersey ports to turn away Russian diesel the Trump administration licensed

FACTS

Gov. Mikie Sherrill sent letters to 12 port and terminal operators warning them not to accept tankers carrying Russian diesel. She says an Oct. 9 Treasury license that allows the imports conflicts with the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act, passed in 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine.

She told them to "turn away" any such tanker or face harsh penalties, and said she'd use "every available legal and regulatory tool" to block Russian fuel from being offloaded in the state. It isn't clear any is actually headed to New Jersey. A Russian official has said three diesel tankers were on their way to the U.S., The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
