"Kudos to that security guard": armed guard stops rifle-wielding gunman at Tampa-area Citibank campus

An armed Citibank security guard shot and killed a gunman at the Citibank Center campus in Brandon, Florida, on Wednesday, the Tampa Free Press reports.

Shortly after noon, the driver crashed a sedan through security fencing into an outdoor employee dining area, stepped out with a rifle and fatally shot a woman eating lunch, according to Hillsborough County Chief Deputy Frank Losat. About four minutes after the first 911 calls, the guard confronted the gunman in the cafeteria, and the two exchanged gunfire.

Four other people were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. About 3,200 employees were on the campus.

"We stopped the threat. The security guard employed by Citibank stopped the threat. Was there potential for other violence? Absolutely," Losat said. "Kudos to that security guard."
