President Trump signed a proclamation Tuesday naming November 1 through 7 Anti-Communism Week, as polls stayed open across the country.
"For more than a century, human freedom has been threatened by communist and socialist ideologies that eliminate individual opportunity, subjugate individuals to the state, and extinguish the God-given rights upon which free nations are built," the proclamation says. It promises that under Trump "America will never fall victim to these evil ideologies, and the United States will never become a communist country."
Trump signed a similar proclamation in 2025, but that one came days after the election. This one lands on the day several candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America are on the ballot, including Claire Valdez in New York and Donavan McKinney in Michigan.
"The Democrats' full-blown embrace of socialism and communism is an existential threat to our nation," White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales told The Daily Wire, which first reported the proclamation.
Update, Nov. 3 (5:55 p.m.): The White House followed up with a video on X: "Communism is the exact opposite of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - the very principles America was founded on."
