Trump confirms limited U.S. strikes on Iranian air defenses near Qeshm Island

FACTS

President Donald Trump said Friday the U.S. military carried out new limited strikes on Iran, targeting air-defense systems near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz — the first acknowledged kinetic hits since Tuesday's midterms.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in West Palm Beach, Trump called the action "minor." "They knocked out — they built a little bit of an anti-aircraft device and we knocked it out in about 15 minutes, maybe five," he said. Iranian state media reported explosions in the Suza area of Qeshm; earlier U.S. Central Command had described Monday strikes in the same theater as defensive.

The confirmation comes as Qatar mediates proposals aimed at bridging toward nuclear talks, with Tehran still demanding sanctions relief, an end to the U.S. blockade, unfrozen assets and a wider halt to hostilities before it will sit down over its atomic program. Trump has repeatedly said Iran will never be allowed a nuclear weapon.
