FACTS
After Democrats flipped the House and Senate, President Donald Trump is signaling he will try to work with the new majority — while reminding them he still holds the veto pen.
Trump told reporters he will "get along, probably, with the Democrats, unless they want to be destructive, but I have the power of the veto." On Thursday a red hat reading "VETO" sat on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, a visual follow-through on his pre-election claim that the ultimate presidential power is the veto. The posture comes as Democratic leaders sketch first-100-hours priorities and Oversight probes while Trump also advances other Oval Office moves, including a national-monument proclamation for the Oval and Cabinet Room.
