Fire alarm pulled twice at UT Austin polling place; police hunting a person of interest

FACTS

Someone pulled the fire alarm twice at the Texas Union, a polling place at the University of Texas at Austin, on Tuesday, Fox 7 Austin and The Daily Texan report. The building was evacuated and voting stopped for about 10 minutes each time before resuming, KXAN reports.

UT police are investigating it as a crime and are asking for help identifying a person of interest who is not affiliated with the university, Fox 7 reports. The site stays open until 7 p.m.

Pulling a fire alarm at a polling place is not a prank. It is a way to send voters home, and in a Texas Senate race this big, every lost voter counts. Police are right to treat it seriously.
