A 97-year-old California man named Vito died at his own Halloween-themed birthday party moments after dancing to the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive," his neighbor, Los Angeles baker Eden Malinoff, shared in a TikTok video that has drawn nearly 10 million views.
Malinoff, 24, who runs the bakery account BakedSocal, threw the party and baked Vito a red wine chocolate cake. Asked his secret to a long life, she said, he told her to "never drink cheap liquor." Her video shows him clapping, swaying and smiling on the dance floor as guests celebrated.
The night took a sudden turn shortly after guests sang "Happy Birthday." "Vito made a dramatic exit," Malinoff said. "But if there's any way he could have chosen to go out it would have been like this. He was surrounded by people he loved."
A friend of Vito's posted that he had medical issues whose severity those close to him had not realized, and that he "passed away peacefully with his favorite music going."
