A LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 737 MAX, flight LO286 from London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin, was diverted to Warsaw-Modlin Airport Tuesday morning after a bomb threat. The airport said the alarm came in at 9:54 a.m. local time and the plane landed at 10:01 with 181 people on board. Modlin was closed while bomb-disposal teams checked the aircraft, and passengers were taken off and held in the arrivals hall, according to the airport's statements.
A separate SAS flight from Copenhagen got a similar threat and landed at Chopin Airport, where it was checked. Chopin stayed open, The Independent and ABC News (Australia) report. As of early Tuesday, no one had claimed responsibility, and no explosive device had been reported found.
Update, Nov. 3 (morning): The LOT flight diverted to Modlin was carrying a group of 16- and 17-year-old Jewish students from a London high school, some of them Israelis living in Britain, on an educational trip to Poland, JFeed reports, citing Ynet. Separately, a plane from Israel landed in Sofia, Bulgaria, after a bomb threat was sent by email, Bulgaria's BTA news agency reported, according to Reuters (via The Jerusalem Post) and Anadolu. Bulgarian authorities did not name the airline, but flight data shows the only commercial flight from Israel to Bulgaria on Tuesday was El Al Flight 551, which landed at 10:45 a.m. local time, JFeed reports. No suspicious items were found, and Bulgarian officials treated the threat as a hoax. A flight to Murcia, Spain was also targeted Tuesday, and on Monday a Wizz Air flight from London to Sofia was diverted to Budapest.
