FACTS
Voters in Washington and Arizona approved ballot measures further restricting transgender athletes from competing in girls' sports, Fox News reports, citing The Associated Press.
In Washington, every student who wants to play on a school team reserved for girls will now need a signed statement from a doctor verifying their biological sex, based on reproductive anatomy, genetic makeup or testosterone levels. The measure passed with about 56% of the vote, even as Democrats swept races across the country.
Arizona's measure requires a student joining a girls' team to provide a birth certificate listing their sex and adds new restrictions on locker rooms. It passed with about 58%.
