REPORT

Election Day is here, and polls open this morning (as early as 5 or 6 a.m. in the Northeast). On the ballot: all 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats and 36 governorships are on the ballot. Here is when the last polls close in each state, in Eastern Time. Those are the earliest moments a statewide race can be called, and first returns are not calls.

(Most of Indiana and Kentucky close at 6 p.m.) 7:30 p.m.: North Carolina, Ohio, West Virginia. 8 p.m.: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Florida, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee. Most of Michigan, Kansas and Texas also close at 8. 8:30 p.m.: Arkansas. 9 p.m.: Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, Wyoming. 10 p.m.: Montana, Nevada, Utah. 11 p.m.: California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington. The Senate battlegrounds by closing time: North Carolina and Ohio at 7:30; Maine and New Hampshire at 8; Michigan, Kansas and Texas start reporting after 8, with their last polls closing at 9; Iowa and Minnesota at 9; Alaska last, at 1 a.m.

Closer to home: New York polls are open until 9 p.m. and New Jersey polls until 8 p.m. Anyone in line when polls close can still vote. Check your county board of elections for your polling place.

Update, Nov. 3 (6 AM ET): Voting is underway. Vermont was first, with some polling places opening at 5 a.m. ET (Vermont towns may open between 5 and 10 a.m., and every poll there closes at 7 p.m.). Polls opened at 6 a.m. across most of the East Coast, including New York (until 9 p.m.) and New Jersey (until 8 p.m.), CBS News reports. If you are in line when polls close, stay in line. You can still vote.
