IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited Yeshivas Derech Chaim, a chareidi hesder yeshiva in Gan Yavne, on Tuesday and promised its students the army won't try to change them.
"The IDF does not seek to change your identity. Our goal is for you to enter the army chareidi and leave the army chareidi," he said. "This is not just a statement, but a commitment on the part of the IDF and a personal commitment of mine."
Zamir said growing the army is a security necessity, and that the IDF and its commanders are responsible for adapting service to chareidi needs. Netzach Yehuda CEO Yossi Levy and the yeshiva's rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Carmi Gross, were there. Zamir called the students "modern-day Nachshon ben Aminadav," Israel National News and The Times of Israel report.
